It’s been 30 days of glorious blogs, and to finish off our #30daysofblogs we are sharing the delicious Tea Factory on 4th! For those of you who don’t know of it’s where abouts it’s located right on the corner of 18th and 4th street south west!

Now, let’s get to the good stuff, Matcha lattes and the benefits they carry at the Tea Factory!

Matcha is packed full of antioxidants. Scientists have found that Matcha Green Tea contains over 100 times more EGCg than any other tea on the market.

Is a stress reliever. L-Theanine promotes the production of alpha waves in the brain which induces relaxation without the inherent drowsiness caused by other “downers.”

Increase concentration – Another side-effect of L-Theanine is the production of dopamine and serotonin. These two chemicals serve to enhance mood, improve memory, and promote better concentration

Detoxify – Matcha is bright green because of its high concentration of chlorophyll which helps remove heavy metals and toxins from the body.

Improves immune system and lowers cholesterol. Just one bowl of matcha provides substantial quantities of Potassium, Vitamins A & C, Iron, Protein, and Calcium.

The Tea Factory has 5 different kinds of matcha lattes. All made with natural ingredients and ceremonial grade matcha powder. They do not use syrups of food grade matcha for any of our drinks.

1. Blueberry (their most popular)
2. Vanilla
3. Raspberry
4. Sweet
5. Unsweetened

We love MATCHA, so it is delightful to hear that it’s so health beneficial to us. Thanks for all the useful information Wayne (the owner), now let’s get to know yourself and your shop a bit more!

How long has the Tea Factory been on 4th Street?

Wayne: We opened in April 2013, so about 2.5 years!

We love tea, and we love the benefits it can truly bring it us. We want to know, what was the inspiration behind the start of The Tea Factory?

Wayne: Tea is amazing, and I wanted to show Calgarians how versatile and flavourful loose leaf teas can be. You can create so many kinds of tea blends by adding different ingredients and playing around with flavour combinations. The possibilities are endless and it feels good to sell something that is also extremely good for your health. Another reason I wanted to open a tea shop with tea service is that a lot of people have been making tea wrong and it affects the flavour quite negatively. This is why we use very special remineralized water system, and steep all the teas at the proper temperature and time so you get the perfect cup every time.

What’s something we might not know about The Tea Factory?

Wayne: We love tea, but we also love coffee. We serve Fratello coffee pulled from a Nuova Simonelli Espresso machine. We didn’t want to cut any corners with coffee so we chose Fratello as our local coffee supplier and invested in all top of the line equipment.

YUM! What’s one fun fact about the shop?

Wayne: We closed early one time so I could take our staff to a Yanni Concert.

Well, that’s amazing! And a good reason to close early. What you love most about 4th Street ?

Wayne: The Food and shops! There are so many good restaurants on 4th and lots of diverse small local businesses.

And….your one guilty pleasure?

Wayne: Favourite day to work is Thursday because we play top hits from the 70s-90s. Lots of Michael Jackson and Backstreet Boys.

Now I know when I will be showing up to visit! What are your top 3 favourite teas?

Wayne: Milk Oolong – Traditional Oolong tea from Taiwan with a very smooth creamy flavour.
Jasmine Pearl – Not all Jasmine Pearls are created equal and I have never found one that compares to one we have here.

Phoenix Dancong – Another Oolong tea that’s harvested from hundreds of year old tea trees grown in the wild. This tea is extremely rare and has won Best Tea in it’s class at the world tea expo in Las Vegas. Our most expensive tea as well.

Well there you have it friends, The Tea Factory on 4th has 70-90’s music on Thursday’s and all kinds of goodies to indulge in, that are HEALTHY!!!
