Heading into the ultimate holiday season, we all want that warm and cozy feeling (inside and out), and we want to know where and how we can give back.
What better way to kick off the 2015 season than with Project Warmth. Thanks to the Strategic Group, we can all take part in making a difference. So now, I am sure you want to know, how did Project Warmth begin? How can you take part? and what does the campaign hope to achieve? We have all your answers right here;
How the campaign started:
Four years ago, Strategic Group committed to partner with Project Warmth Society to run an annual campaign utilizing their building lobbies and encouraging tenants, visitors, friends and family to donate warm clothing for those in need throughout the month of November.
What Strategic Group hope to achieve:
We want to fill 20 half-ton pick-up trucks with donations and raise the campaign’s profile so that more and more Calgarians support this great cause for years to come.
How people can get involved/calendar of events:
- Look for the lobby donation boxes and donate! There is a full listing of where to donate on our website.
- Attend community initiatives that support Project Warmth like Market Collective
Nov. 27-29 (if you bring a donation, you are entered to win an iPad or $250 GC to spend at another Market Collective).
- Coffee & Doughnuts at Mission Centre on 4th street between 7:45 am – 9:00 am Thursday, November 26. We will be in the lobby collecting items. Bring in a donation and we treat you to a hot treat on a cold day!
- If you don’t get a chance to donate by Nov. 30, we also hold a Winter Festival Day in January at the Calgary Farmers’ Market where we collect warm clothing. More details to come!
- Lastly, help spread the word and promote #ProjectWarmth through social media
Why giving back is especially important around this year’s holiday:
The holiday season always sparks generosity and people want to give back to charities that are close to their hearts. With the current economic climate in Calgary, statics have shown that more people than ever are living on the streets and trying to find shelter in drop-in centres. There are so many Calgarians right on our doorstep that need our help!
We know that our winter months can be unforgiving. Help us provide support to not only those that need help themselves but to their children and other family members.
It is important that we do our part to provide assistance wherever we can, and we invite our community neighbours in the Mission area to join us in collecting clothing for those in need. Help us make sure as many Calgarians as possible stay warm this winter.
What a wonderful campaign! We can’t wait to take part and donate to people in need this holiday season. Now let’s learn a little bit more about this amazing 4th Street business.
How long have you operated on 4th Street?
Roxana: 12 years with the acquisition of Mission Centre.
Strategic Group’s Mission buildings:
What was the inspiration behind the start of your business?
Roxana: Strategic Group’s chief executive, Riaz Mamdani, developed a real interest in financing companies and was involved with numerous startup ventures. As he developed these businesses, there was a need for office space – these requirements lead Mr. Mamdani down the path of commercial real estate.
Strategic Group is now one of the largest privately-held real estate companies in Canada.
Something we might not know about your business?
Roxana: Real estate is our focus but we own businesses in other industries including Construction, Building Services, Oilfield Services, Hospitality, Pet Care, Agriculture, Technology, and Corporate Finance.
One fun fact about Strategic Group:
Roxana: Many ask what our logo means. It features Hermes – an Olympian god of Greek mythology who is also one of the gods of commerce and the marketplace. Known as the messenger, Hermes is articulate, entrepreneurial and creative! He sums up the spirit of our organization.
What you love most about 4th Street:
Roxana: We love 4th street as it is one of Calgary’s trendiest streets housing some of the city’s best restaurants, exercise studios, shopping, entertainment, and a wide-variety of businesses. This community has it all!
Your one guilty pleasure:
Roxana: Can we have two guilty pleasures?
Roxana: Burgers! A couple times a month, our CEO, Riaz Mamdani with the help of our COO, Randy Ferguson flip burgers for team members on our rooftop patio (rain, snow or shine!). We also indulge in popcorn Thursday afternoons.
